Audi estimates the system will save about 0.1 gallons of gas for every 62-ish miles of driving; it's not a huge boost, but hey, it's somethin'. The 45 TFSI expectedly gulps more gas as it is mated to the heavier quattro all-wheel-drive system - economy numbers are 22/30/25 mpg with a combined range of 362 miles from a slightly larger 14.5-gallon gas tank. A navigation system and Audi's 12.3-inch virtual cockpit display with its crisp images are worthwhile options to spend on. While a base BMW 2 Series may offer more appeal for enthusiasts thanks to its rear-wheel-drive setup, the A3 will never be left far behind thanks to the torquey, responsive engine.
